3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Competencies:

Customer service and communication
- Reception and seeing off customers;
- Presentation of massage services and products;
- Customer service.
Work with documents and databases
- Documenting of work;
- Arranging own bookkeeping and accounting;
- Command of correct professional terminology;
- Administration of customer base.
Massage and activities supporting the conduct of massage
- Preparation for work (clothing, hair, nails, hygiene; psychological readiness, etc);
- Preparation of the work environment and work equipment;
- Maintaining order in the place of work;
- Collection of anamnesis and assessment of the condition of customers; preparing the client for massage;
- Planning of massage sessions / therapy;
- Carrying out massage/therapy;
- Use of mechanical aids and exercise equipment;
- Completion of massage/therapy;
- Acting as a member of the rehabilitation team;
- Assessment of the results of therapy

Competencies related to specialisation:
Paediatric massage
- Preparation for paediatric massage and carrying out massage;
- Establishing contact;
- Preparation of the massage cabinet;
- Collection of information;
- Giving instructions.
Knowledge: functional anatomy and physiology of a child, age development and physical development of children, most frequent illnesses of children, orthopaedics and neurology of children, rehabilitation and therapeutic exercises, massage of babies, communication psychology and counselling of children.

Sports massage
- Preparation for sports massage and carrying out massage;
- Use of specialist equipment;
- Assessment of results;
- Pre-event massage, massage at competitive events and post-event massage;
- Adherence to the specifics of the sport;
- Providing first aid in case of traumas;
- Using different techniques and methods of sports massage;
- Use of suitable techniques for sports massage, including the prevention of sports injuries;
- Assisting the physiotherapist or doctor of the support team;
- Use of support devices (orthosis, taping, etc);
- Use of sports-specific oils, creams, ointments, etc.
Knowledge: sports physiology, basics of sports training (structure and formation mechanisms of fitness), role of sports massage in a process of training, sports phycology, status of congestion of body’s support and movement apparatus, illnesses and sports injuries, prevention of sports injuries, possibilities of physical treatment (for example electrical, magnetic, thermo treatments etc.), biomechanics of sports and sport kinesiology, importance of physical exercises including exercises related to health risks, myofascial techniques.

General massage therapy
- Preparation for massage therapy and carrying out massage.
Knowledge: segment massage, connective tissue massage, pregnancy massage, elderly massage, one type of oriental massage, neurological illnesses and convenient massage, illnesses of body’s support and movement apparatus and convenient massage, manual therapy of soft tissues, myofascial techniques.

6. OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED WAYS OF ACQUIRING THE CERTIFICATE

In order to obtain a occupational certificate, the applicant has to prove all his/her competencies required by the occupational standard and by the procedure for awarding of occupational qualification established by the body awarding the occupational qualification.
